3D In Vitro Biology and Human-Relevant Tissue Engineering

Principal Investigator : Sukanya V.S

3D In Vitro Biology and Human-Relevant Tissue Engineering advances translational biology by developing engineered microenvironments and advanced cell culture systems that capture the complexity of native tissues. Drawing on tissue engineering, biomaterials science, and cutting-edge in vitro technologies, this research encompasses the design of 3D cellular microenvironments, biomaterial scaffolds that replicate the biochemical and mechanical properties of living tissues, and the application of spheroids, organoids, organ-on-chip systems, and bioprinted constructs to model human physiology with greater fidelity.

Aligned with the growing global emphasis on New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) and evolving regulatory frameworks, the research supports the development of human-relevant alternatives that improve clinical predictability, reduce reliance on animal models, and enable more evidence-based decision-making in drug discovery and preclinical evaluation.
