Launch of M.Tech. Programme in Synthetic Biology and Biomanufacturing

Date: August 22, 2025

Location: Auditorium, Dept. of Hindi, CUSAT

Details: Synthetic biology, the foundation of CSB’s research, involves designing and constructing new biological components or reprogramming existing ones to perform novel functions. This engineering-centric approach enables predictable, scalable, and efficient biological systems tailored for industrial, medical, and environmental applications. In a landmark collaboration with the National Centre for Aquatic Animal Health, Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), CSB now offers India’s first M.Tech. program in Synthetic Biology and Biomanufacturing. This program is not just a degree—it’s a launchpad into the future of biotechnology, designed to equip students with the skills, mindset, and global exposure needed to lead in a rapidly evolving bioeconomy.

This pioneering academic initiative represents a major milestone in advancing interdisciplinary education and research at the interface of biology, engineering, and biomanufacturing.

Distinguished leaders from academia and industry graced the event and was further enriched it with scientific talks on frontier areas of Biotechnology and Biomedical Research by globally renowned experts in biomedical innovation Prof. Jayachandran K., Tier 1 Canada Research Chair, University of British Columbia , Canada, and Dr. Jayaprakash K., Vice President, Alnylam Pharmaceuticals, Cambridge, USA.
